YUMA, Ariz. – The Department of Veteran Affairs is currently working on a website to better serve veterans across the U.S. According to the Federal Times the website is in the works and it will give veterans navigation access to services available to them 24-7.
“I think it would make it a lot easier for veterans to go into online and stuff like that and get all the information that they need.” said Terry Wood who is a former Air Force service man.
The MyVA initiative was launched September of last year. The focus of that initiative is to improve services to veterans across the U.S. by providing easier access to information. Currently veterans have to visit different websites depending on what kind of services they need.
“You basically have to get on the telephone and that takes time, and I only have a cellphone and the battery runs dead. So going on a computer, getting on a website, where everything is right there, very beneficial.” said Jack McCullen who served 13-years in the Navy.
“I think it’s very hard because you have to go to different systems and if you got one that you can go to for all veterans it would make it a lot easier for them.” said Wood.
According to a Federal Times article the website will be tested by opening the site to as many as 50-veterans on May 20th. Some local veterans had not heard about the website until today, but they are looking forward to having to only visit one web page.
“If I can go to a website and everything is right there for me to look at and maybe punch in this or punch in that and get the answers that I need that are important to me it would be very beneficial.” said McCullen.
There was no one available from the VA to talk about this today. However, according to the VA website all organizations within the VA have to be aligned with this plan by June this year.
